US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed as absurd claims that President Donald Trump's deal with Iran is inadequate. During a trip to India, Rubio told reporters that the president's commitment to preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon should not be questioned by anyone.
"The idea that this president, given everything he has already proven he is willing to do, would agree to a deal that would ultimately put Iran in a stronger position when it comes to its nuclear ambitions is absurd ," Rubio said.
Trump said Saturday that a broader deal between the United States and Iran has been “extensively negotiated” and that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened. Rubio welcomed the progress made and added that there is a possibility that in the coming hours, the world will receive positive news about these talks.
" I'm always careful to say that, since you can agree to things on paper, they actually have to be implemented. I think there's a chance that maybe in the next few hours the world will get some good news, at least about the straits and about a process that ultimately could get us to where the president wants us to be, and that's a world that no longer has to fear or worry about an Iranian nuclear weapon ," he said.
