US forces have launched an operation in the Gulf of Oman against an Iranian-flagged tanker, which, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM), was attempting to sail towards an Iranian port.
According to the statement released by CENTCOM, US forces "enforced blockade measures" by disabling the tanker, which was empty.
US authorities said the ship's crew was given several warnings, but they disobeyed orders from US naval forces.
"To stop its movement, US forces disabled the tanker's steering wheel by firing several times with a 20 mm cannon from a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft ," the official CENTCOM statement said.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump declared on the "Truth Social" platform that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports is "in full force and effect."
The event comes at a time when discussions are continuing between the US and Iran to reach an agreement that will bring peace to the Middle East region.
