The US military has shot down two Iranian attack drones, Reuters reported, citing a US official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
According to the official, the drones were intercepted during a suspected Iranian attempt to attack commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic sea lanes in the world.
The American source stressed that the incident has not affected maritime traffic in the area. "The flow of traffic through the strait continues," he said.
The development comes at a time when US President Donald Trump declared that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement to reduce tensions between the two countries.
However, Iran's Foreign Ministry rejected these claims, clarifying that no final decision has yet been made and describing reports of an agreement as "speculation."
Iranian authorities also criticized the United States for its constant changes of position during the negotiation process.
The latest incident underscores that tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high, despite diplomatic efforts and statements about a possible solution.
