The Socialist Party is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its founding this afternoon at "Italia" Square in Tirana, in an activity where the Prime Minister and simultaneously the leader of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama, is expected to be at the center of attention.
According to information from the organizers, the socialists will remain standing throughout the event, while Rama will be the only one to address the attendees. Unlike other anniversaries, no greetings or speeches from other party figures are planned.
During the ceremony, film materials dedicated to the 35-year history of the Socialist Party, its political journey and the main periods that have marked the life of this political force since its founding in 1991 will also be broadcast.
The event is taking place under heightened security measures. The media is not allowed to enter the fenced perimeter where the ceremony is being held, while entry is limited to persons with the relevant authorizations.
Also, during the activity, bars and restaurants in the area near the "Air Albania" stadium were kept closed, while numerous police forces and security services were deployed on the ground.
This 35th anniversary finds the Socialist Party in its fourth mandate in government, but in a completely different climate from the celebrations of previous years. The activity takes place at a time when the country is experiencing the 13th day of civic protests, where one of the main demands of the protesters is the departure of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
