Iran has reaffirmed its unchanged stance on its nuclear program, just two days after talks with the United States.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran will not back down from uranium enrichment, despite pressure or military threats.
Speaking at a forum in Tehran, Araghchi stressed that Iran has paid heavy costs for its nuclear program. "Iran has paid a very high price for its peaceful nuclear program and for uranium enrichment ," he declared.
The minister explained the reason for the refusal to give up enrichment, even in the scenario of an armed clash.
" Why do we insist on enrichment (of uranium) and refuse to abandon it even if war is imposed on us? Because no one has the right to dictate our actions," Araghchi said.
The statements come after contacts held on Friday in Oman between Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff, as part of discussions on the Iranian nuclear program.
The Iranian foreign minister also downplayed the US military presence in the region.
"Their military deployment in the region does not scare us," he said, a day after Donald Trump's Middle East envoy visited the US aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in the Persian Gulf.
Araghchi tried to balance strong rhetoric with a diplomatic message.
"We are a people of diplomacy, we are also a people of war, but that does not mean we seek war," he declared.
Tehran's stance signals that the clash over uranium enrichment remains the main point of conflict with Washington, with diplomacy still active, but with red lines openly declared by Iran.
