Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway's Princess Mette-Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison after an Oslo court found him guilty of rape. According to the court's decision, the 29-year-old faced a total of 40 charges during the trial, including four counts of rape. The court found him guilty on two of them.
Hoiby had pleaded guilty to some of the lesser charges but denied the more serious charges. He continues to contest the charges and has the right to appeal the verdict announced today. The 29-year-old was not physically present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced, but participated in the hearing via videoconference.
Marius Borg Hoiby is the eldest child of Norwegian Princess Mette-Marit. He became the stepfather of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, when his mother married him in 2001.
