A train driver has died in Germany after being attacked on Monday evening by a 26-year-old man on board a train. International media reports that the 36-year-old driver was attacked by the young man, who did not have a ticket.
The incident occurred just outside Landstuhl station in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and the 26-year-old was arrested by officers and brought before a judge, who charged him with involuntary manslaughter.
“This tragic death leaves us speechless and deeply saddened. My deepest condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues. We at Deutsche Bahn condemn in the strongest terms this terrible act of violence and the completely senseless death of our colleague. We must all ask ourselves why such acts of violence continue to occur. We, the politicians, society, must provide answers. Today is a dark day for all railway employees across the country. We at Deutsche Bahn are in mourning,” said Evelyn Palla, CEO of the German railway company.
