Rai3 investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, also known for an investigative reportage against the Rama government, had TNT placed in his vehicle yesterday evening in Rome.
According to preliminary police reports, two quantities of explosives were placed in the car of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci, presenter of the Report show, and his daughter, while the vehicles were parked in front of their home in Campo Ascolano.
It was the journalist himself who confirmed the news, writing that the two explosions caused panic throughout the neighborhood.
But who is Sigfrido Ranucci and what was the investigation into Rama and the Albanian government?
Italian investigative journalist and host of the show Report on Rai 3.
He is known for his revelations related to corruption, organized crime, and connections between politics and criminal elements.
Among the accusations and issues that Ranucci has reported on Rai are:
Links with drug traffickers and criminals
According to the materials of the Report show, Engjëll Agaçi (Secretary General of the Council of Ministers in Albania) has been accused of having been a lawyer for several drug traffickers.
It is also noted that the documents that Report uses are court documents; emails that Agaçi sent to the journalist were used as confirmation that some of the accusations are true.
Protocol between Albania and Italy on migrants and reception centers
Report has investigated the agreements between Albania and Italy, specifically on the management of migrant flows and on 'hotspots' where asylum applications will be processed.
Allegedly out-of-control costs, lack of transparency and government reactions that some of the components were not reported correctly. Rama has reacted sharply to the Report piece.
Prime Minister Rama and his officials have refused to give interviews about some parts of the investigation.
Rama has responded to Report several times, calling some of the accusations “slander,” but has not dared to refute the facts.
Angel Agaçi has sent several responses via email that, according to Ranucci, confirm that he has been a lawyer for those often accused of drug trafficking, and has legally collaborated in drafting protocols.
Threats and pressure
After the broadcast of the reports, Ranucci publicly announced that he had received threats related to the issues he uncovered.
There was an international outcry of solidarity for his safety as a journalist dealing with difficult investigations.
It is not clear who is behind the bomb, whether it is Albanian citizens or an Italian criminal organization, but police investigations have not yet released full details.
Report's investigations are based primarily on court documents and emails.
Ranucci had previously faced threats and intimidation, all of which have been reported, and the judiciary has been investigating for some time. The journalist, a former presenter of the investigative program Report, is busy preparing for the new season of the program, which will premiere on October 26 on Rai 3.
Report himself wrote on his social media profiles: "The car exploded, also damaging the family's other car and the house next door. The force of the explosion was so strong that it could have killed anyone passing by at that moment."
Ai i RAI ta kerkoje nga te vetet e jo nga Shqiperia. Mafia i ka rrenjet ne Itali e te mbulojne mutrat e veta sajojne incidente ne Shqiperi.
