
The French Ministry of Culture has confirmed that eight precious jewels have been stolen from the Apollo Gallery at the Louvre museum, in what is being considered one of the worst thefts of the decade. According to the latest official tally, the stolen objects include:
• Tiara from the set of Queen Marie-Amelie and Queen Hortense
• Necklace from the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amelie and Queen Hortense
• Earrings, from the pair belonging to the sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amelie and Queen Hortense
• Emerald necklace from the Empress Marie Louise set
• A pair of emerald earrings from the Empress Marie Louise set
• The brooch known as the "reliquary brooch"
• Empress Eugenie's diadem
• Large brooch with corsage bow of Empress Eugenie.
Police also found a damaged piece of jewelry thrown on the street, which turns out to be Eugenie's crown, a unique object with 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds.
