The Israeli army has announced that it has launched a new wave of airstrikes on the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israel claims that these strikes are in response to attacks carried out by Hamas, which have been categorically denied by the Palestinian organization.
"In response to the flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreement earlier in the day, the Israeli army has launched a series of strikes against Hamas targets in the southern Gaza Strip," the army's official statement said.
Meanwhile, both Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on October 10.
Israeli attacks have been concentrated on the eastern side of Khan Yunis, also south of the Palestinian enclave.
Meanwhile, the US is trying to prevent the ceasefire from breaking down due to today's escalation in Gaza.
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, urging him to exercise restraint and react with prudence following attacks on IDF troops in southern Gaza.
Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Hamas that there would be severe consequences in the event of attacks against Israeli troops or if there are further violations of the ceasefire.
"Hamas will pay a heavy price for every attack on our soldiers and for every violation of the ceasefire in Gaza. Hamas will learn the hard way today that the Israeli army is determined to protect its troops and prevent any harm to them," Katz declared.
Israel also carried out airstrikes in response to terrorist attacks on its positions in the region.
