England - Argentina, this will be the second semi-final of the 2026 World Cup. This Sunday morning Albanian time, Argentina suffered 120 minutes, but managed to defeat Switzerland 3-1 and get the only remaining ticket to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Now the reigning world champions are only one match away from the grand final, while on July 15 at 21:00 they will face England.
The match started very well for Argentina, with Lionel Messi providing the assist for Mac Allister who headed home. Messi becomes the most assists player in the World Cup with ten assists in the final.
Switzerland, with Granit Xhaka on the field, did not give up and tied the score at 1-1 in the 67th minute with a beautiful goal by Ndoye. Just five minutes later, Switzerland was left with one man less after Embolo was sent off. The second yellow card brought great protests in Switzerland, so much so that Xhaka and his teammates made the sign 'it's over, it's decided'.
Despite being one man down, Argentina failed to score in regular time and the 90 minutes ended 1-1. It took the 112th minute for Julian Alvarez to put the Latin Americans ahead with a superb goal, before Lautaro Martinez sealed the score at 3-1 in the 120th+1 minute.
Thus, the quarterfinals of the World Cup come to an end, giving way to two semifinals; France - Spain and England - Argentina.
