Footage of the spectacular robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris has been released, revealing a meticulous criminal plan that led to the theft of some of the most precious jewels in French history, including the crown of Empress Eugenie.

According to sources from Le Parisien and BFMTV, the perpetrators were four people; two wearing yellow vests disguised as construction workers, who used a forklift truck to penetrate the first floor of the museum from the Seine side, in an area where restoration work was being carried out. The other two served as support and reception on scooters.

In the video, one of the perpetrators is seen entering the Apollo Hall, where “Napoleon’s jewels” and “the jewels of the French rulers” are exhibited. Using a metal wheel, the robbers broke two armored display cases and stole a set of jewelry, including a necklace, earrings, and two crowns, one of which is that of Empress Eugenie.

After the robbery, the perpetrators fled again with the help of a forklift and then disappeared on two scooters. Tools used during the crime were left behind at the scene, including: metal wheels, gasoline, gloves, a work vest and a radio. Police also found a damaged piece of jewelry lying on the road, which turned out to be Eugenie's crown, a unique object with 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds.

According to information so far, another looted object has been found, but has not yet been identified. French authorities have launched an in-depth investigation, while the event has revived the debate on security in national museum institutions.
