British scientists raise the alarm: "Weapons" that control the human mind are becoming a reality

Mind control weapons may sound like the stuff of science fiction movies, but experts warn they are rapidly approaching reality.

Two researchers from the University of Bradford , Dr. Michael Crowley and Professor Malcolm Dando, emphasize in their new book that recent advances in neuroscience should serve as a wake-up call for the world.

According to Professor Dandos, the same knowledge that is used to treat neurological disorders can also be used to influence the perception, memory or behavior of individuals, writes the Daily Mail .

He warns that we are entering a new era, where the human brain could become a battlefield.

The US, China, Russia and Britain have been studying such weapons since the 1950s. One of the best-known examples is the American substance “BZ”, which causes hallucinations and profound mental disorders, while China has developed a “narcotic weapon” that shoots syringes of paralyzing chemicals.

The only case of the use of a weapon targeting the nervous system in conflict remains that of Moscow in 2002, when Russian forces used a derivative of fentanyl to incapacitate Chechen militants, causing the deaths of 120 hostages.

Scientists warn that the risks are growing, as modern research into "survival circuits", areas of the brain that control fear, sleep and decision-making, could be misused to create weapons that manipulate mental functions.

The Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of harmful chemicals, but there is a gray area that allows the use of some chemicals in certain circumstances, such as law enforcement.

This leaves a possible legal justification for the development and use of powerful mind control weapons within the current scope of the law.

"There are dangerous regulatory gaps within and between these treaties. If they are not closed, we fear that some states may be emboldened to exploit them in dedicated CNS programs and broader incapacitating agent weapons programs. We must act now to protect the integrity of science and the sanctity of the human mind," says Professor Dando.
