Israeli forces have carried out a series of airstrikes in southern Lebanon, hitting several residential areas and causing at least five casualties, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA). The latest strikes targeted the towns of al-Baisariyah, as-Sarafand and Khirbet Selm.

Another Israeli strike targeted a motorbike traveling on a road near al-Abbassieh, wounding its occupants. The actions come despite a ceasefire that went into effect on April 17 and was extended for 45 days starting on May 17, following indirect talks brokered by the United States.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli troops have advanced across the Litani River in southern Lebanon.

" Our forces crossed the Litani River and advanced on dominant terrain ," Netanyahu said during a visit to troops near the border, according to The Times of Israel.

Netanyahu added that Israeli forces are currently operating in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and "all along the front." Israeli attacks on Lebanon have continued with varying intensity since the beginning of the conflict, despite international efforts for de-escalation.

For their part, the Lebanese authorities have repeatedly condemned this offensive, calling it a violation of the ceasefire and the country's sovereignty.
