The United States Air Force and Navy used a Black Hawk helicopter to intercept a suspected drug trafficking vessel off the coast of Puerto Rico. According to Fox News, the operation took place on May 14, and footage of the operation was released this Friday, May 29.
US authorities identified a 25-meter-long vessel with three people and several suspicious packages on board. After discovering the vessel, the San Juan Naval Unit sent a patrol boat, supported by a Black Hawk helicopter.
During the operation, three citizens of the Dominican Republic were arrested, while approximately 180 kilograms of cocaine were seized on board.
As the released footage shows, the suspects attempted to throw the cargo overboard, but then surrendered with their hands over their heads after the helicopter crew fired warning shots. The agents then approached the boat and escorted it to the US patrol ship.
The successful completion of this operation with the support of the "Black Hawk" helicopter is considered another demonstration of the commitment of American forces in the fight against drug trafficking in the southern regions near the US borders.
"Our Air and Naval Operations teams demonstrated exceptional skill and coordination in this interdiction. The decisive use of warning air fire by our Black Hawk crew was instrumental in interdicting the vessel and preventing dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities," said Air and Naval Operations Branch Director Christopher Hunter.
Since the start of his presidential term, Donald Trump has declared that he will use all legal and operational means to address drug smuggling as a serious threat to US national security.
On January 20, 2025, Trump declared a state of emergency due to the influx of narcotics entering American territory.
Meanwhile, the US Air Force has also conducted other operations against drug trafficking, including attacks on vessels loaded with cocaine destined for the coast of the United States.
