US President Donald Trump has convened his Cabinet today to discuss the status of talks with Iran, following reports from Iranian media that a draft agreement is in place.
Speaking from the cabinet meeting, Trump said Iran is very keen to reach a deal, but if it doesn't let up, the US will finish what it started.
" They really want to make a deal. So far, they haven't gotten there. We're not happy with that. But we'll be OK, either that, or we'll just have to get the job done ," Trump said.
He added that the Iranian team is "negotiating for gases" and "has no other choice" but to make a deal, given the economic difficulties Tehran is facing.
"But we'll see what happens. Maybe we should go back and finish it. Maybe not now ," Trump added.
On the other hand, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US and Iran have made some progress towards a peace agreement.
"We will see over the next hours and days where progress can be made ," the US secretary of state said at the cabinet meeting.
Meanwhile, just before Donald Trump began his cabinet meeting, he gave a brief update on a phone call with PBS News.
He said he ruled out the possibility of exchanging sanctions relief for Iran in exchange for Tehran giving up its highly enriched uranium.
"No, no, not at all. Not sanctions relief, no. They will give up their highly enriched uranium, not for sanctions, not for relief. No, no, not at all," Trump said when asked about the issue.
The White House had previously dismissed Iranian reports that there is a draft agreement that would see the US withdraw military forces from the region and lift the blockade of Iranian ports.
