Italian journalist Sigfrido Ranucci has made the first reaction after a bomb was placed under his car parked in front of his apartment last night.
Italian media outlet ANSA reported that the device was not activated by remote control or timer, but was left there with a lit fuse, between two flower pots outside the villa.
Investigators are checking security cameras that may have filmed the moment the vehicle was parked.
" We heard a terrible explosion, it was 10:17 p.m. Even the carabinieri heard it through the audio of some people who were in the area and were recording on their phones at that moment, " Ranucci declared.
He added that measures have already been taken to reinforce his personal protection: "Now he moves in an armored car."
" But who did it? It's impossible to say at this moment. It's a fairly broad context and there have been several reports about this in recent months ," he adds.
The journalist explains that his car had been parked there since lunch by his son.
Ranucci, who has been under police protection since 2014 due to death threats from the mafia, has long denounced the "climate of isolation and delegitimization towards him", recalling that he has received numerous threats recently, from the finding of two P38 bullets outside his house, to pursuits by people identified by his security forces.
" I reconstructed with the carabinieri what happened last night. There is an endless list of threats, of various natures, about which I have always informed the judicial authorities, and about which my security team has made continuous reports. However, I feel calm because the state and the institutions have always stood by me.
"Last night's incident represents a serious escalation, because it happened right in front of the house, where bullets were found last year ," Ranucci said.
