Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran was still considering "messages" from the United States through Pakistani mediation and had not yet finalized its response to a US proposal to end the war.
Tehran is expected to submit its response to the mediators regarding the US proposal on Thursday.
"Iran has not yet reached a final conclusion and no response has been given to the American side. Iran's foreign ministry is still reviewing the messages with the mediation of the Pakistani side," the Tasnim news agency quoted Baghaei as saying.
Both sides are understood to be moving toward a deal. The one-page U.S. proposal aimed to declare an end to the war, triggering a 30-day negotiation period to resolve sticking points, including nuclear issues, frozen Iranian assets and security in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a regional source familiar with the negotiations.
