The FIFA president's relationship with the Trump administration has reignited the debate over football's independence, as organizational decisions and political issues take the place of the game.

Today, however, according to critics, it is Donald Trump himself who has intervened in football, influencing a process that, according to the FIFA president himself, should have been "independent and autonomous." Thus, Infantino has also been forced to pay the reputational cost due to the host country.
It is sad to say, but when the US president promoted the FIFA Peace Prize, a kind of consolation for the Nobel Prize that he never won and that, in itself, sounds grotesque, the only federation that reacted openly was that of Norway. The same thing happened when Infantino, through a formally regular but unprecedented strategy, accelerated the approval of the organization of the 2030 World Cup on three continents (South America, Europe and Africa), paving the way for Saudi Arabia to organize the 2034 World Cup, just 12 years after the tournament held in Qatar. Everything was approved via Zoom, by acclamation and without other candidates.
