The central province of Hubei was hit on Monday by a severe atmospheric phenomenon, accompanied by storms and strong winds, affecting cities such as Huangshi and Huanggang.

Footage released by the media shows homes and vehicles partially covered by water, as rescue teams, equipped with life jackets, helmets and rafts, search for trapped residents.
The situation has been further complicated by the escape of an estimated 800-900 snakes from a farm in Hangzhou after the facility was flooded. According to Chinese media, most are non-venomous water snakes. However, one resident was bitten and is receiving treatment in hospital, a local official said. Authorities have urged citizens to report any sightings of snakes and not try to catch them themselves.

In another incident, a landslide in a village in northwestern Gansu province buried 33 people. According to state broadcaster CCTV, 17 of them were later pulled out by rescue teams, while the search for the others continues.

Local authorities stated that they are working with all capacities to find trapped people, shelter affected residents, and prevent other secondary disasters.
