Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leaders of Great Britain, France and Germany discussed the "urgent need to increase" Ukraine's air defense and long-range strike capabilities on Sunday evening in London.

The meeting was held hours after a Russian drone strike damaged a storage center for spent nuclear fuel, about 14 kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss further support for Ukraine. According to the British government, the leaders discussed increasing the production of interceptor missiles, jointly developing anti-ballistic missile capabilities and strengthening deep strike capabilities, following Russia's use of Oreshnik weapons against Ukraine.

The leaders condemned the massive Russian missile and drone attacks and urged President Vladimir Putin to accept "an immediate and complete ceasefire," taking the current line of contact as a starting point for negotiations.

Attention is now expected to shift to the G7 summit in Evian on June 15, where allies will demand more support for Ukraine, new economic sanctions on Russia and greater military commitments at the NATO summit in July.

Before the meeting, Zelensky declared that Ukraine would not “die in silence.” He told Sky News that his country would respond and become stronger every day. The Ukrainian president added that the talks would focus on support for Ukraine and cooperation on air defense, “for the security of all of Europe.”

The London meeting followed a series of Ukrainian strikes on targets inside Russia, including Putin's hometown of St. Petersburg. Ukrainian long-range drones hit an oil terminal and a nearby seaport.

Putin rejected Zelensky's proposal for face-to-face talks, saying that Russia's war objectives have not changed and that there is "no point" in holding peace negotiations.

Zelensky called Putin's response "weak" and said Ukraine would continue deep strikes on targets inside Russia.

In Kiev, the political and military climate is more optimistic. Russian advances on the front line appear to have slowed, while Ukraine claims that Moscow is losing more troops than it is recruiting. According to Kiev, Russian air defenses are failing to stop Ukrainian drones that can fly more than 1,000 kilometers from the front line.

On Saturday, Ukraine struck again in St. Petersburg, with reports of attacks on an ammunition depot and an oil terminal in Kronstadt. Ukrainian forces also released footage of overnight strikes on fuel facilities in occupied Crimea.

The attacks also damaged a bridge connecting the peninsula to the Chonhar crossing, a key supply route to Russian-controlled southern Ukraine. The strikes have caused severe fuel shortages in Crimea, and the crisis is spreading to other areas, including southern Russia.

Zelensky called the attack near Chernobyl "extremely low" and stressed that there was no increase in radiation levels. The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that large amounts of nuclear fuel were located just a few meters from the affected site.

According to Ukrainian authorities, four people were killed by Russian airstrikes, including two civilians waiting at a bus stop in the southern Zaporizhzhia region and a 56-year-old minibus driver. Another attack in the neighboring Dnipropetrovsk region killed a 59-year-old man.
