A 23-year-old British woman was shot dead in the chest during a fight at her father's home in Texas. US authorities have ruled the incident an accident and have not filed charges.
The mother of 23-year-old British girl Lucy Harrison has reacted angrily after authorities in the US decided not to press criminal charges over the death of her daughter in Texas in 2025. Lucy Harrison, who lived in England with her mother, had travelled to the United States to visit her father. The visit ended tragically inside his apartment.
According to the investigation, the young woman was fatally shot in the chest during a heated argument, which centered on a political discussion about Donald Trump. Her father claimed that the gun was accidentally discharged while he was drinking alcohol. US authorities classified the incident as an accident and did not file charges against him.
In an interview with Sky News, the victim's mother, Jane Coats, called the decision "an injustice" and accused authorities of negligence in handling the case. She said important evidence had been ignored, even though forensic reports showed the bullet hit a vital area.
According to witnesses, tensions between father and daughter escalated after a political argument, which then turned into a violent conflict within the home. A friend of Lucy Harrison, who was in Texas at the time of the incident, stated that the situation got out of control, although the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
The 23-year-old's mother claims there are contradictions in the official version of events. She says evidence from the scene suggests a different distance from where the shot was fired than what her father claimed. A British forensic expert has reportedly ruled the death an "unlawful homicide," contradicting the conclusion of US authorities.
Jane Coats has stated that she will continue efforts to reopen the investigation, insisting that her daughter's death was not an accident and that the case has not been fully investigated.
