United States President Donald Trump declared from the White House that American forces have conducted a secret operation to remove millions of barrels of oil from the Strait of Hormuz, without being noticed by Iranian authorities.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Trump said the operation took place overnight and enabled the transportation of large quantities of crude oil out of the area of tension, contributing to the stabilization of international energy markets.
"We were removing millions of barrels of oil. Nobody knows this. We were removing millions of barrels of oil, millions of barrels every night," Trump said.
According to the US president, Washington took advantage of the weakening of Iranian defense capabilities. He stated that 22 ships carrying Iranian oil, which moved slowly at night with their lights off, recently left.
Trump claimed that the operation was made possible because Iranian radar systems have been severely damaged by previous US strikes, limiting Tehran's ability to monitor movements in the region.
Trump argued that without this operation, the price of oil could have risen to $250 per barrel. According to him, the American intervention helped keep prices in the $85–90 range per barrel.
He added that maintaining the secrecy of the operation was essential to its success and that the actions taken have affected the energy balances during the crisis in the region.
