The hearing to review Arber Paplekaj's request for conditional release from prison has been postponed again.
The court has decided that the next session will take place on September 19, at 09:45, and the reason for the postponement was the absence of a representative of the Probation Service, whose participation is mandatory at this stage.
The Court of Appeals has sentenced Arbër Paplekaj, accused of the murder of Pjerin Xhuvani, on April 25, 2021 in Elbasan, to 7 years in prison.
The former RENEA operative was sentenced by the Elbasan Court to 22 years in prison for murder under extenuating circumstances, but claimed that he committed the crime in self-defense. This argument was accepted by the trial panel, which convicted Paplekaj of the charge of "Murder committed under conditions of severe psychological shock."
Having served more than half of his sentence, his defense has requested parole. The September hearing is expected to be decisive for Paplekaj's request, who did not attend the hearing, in which he was represented by his lawyer.
