The first court hearing is taking place at the GJKKO against Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj and 10 other defendants, who will face a regular trial. The panel that will examine Veliaj's separate file consists of presiding judge Elsa Ulliri and members Flora Hajredini and Besmir Stroka.

The requests previously submitted by Veliaj's defense, which were rejected by the trial panel composed of Ėngjëllushe Tahiri, Rudina Palloj and Alma Kodraliu, are expected to be submitted again to the new trial panel. Among them are requests for changing the security measure "prison arrest", conducting the hearing live, and administering all evidence included in the file against Erion Veliaj.

Representatives of the Albanian Helsinki Committee are also present at the hearing, as part of monitoring the process following Veliaj's request regarding the cage in the courtroom. Erion Veliaj himself is not present at the hearing.

Illegal constructions in Saranda, 3 officers in handcuffs/Searching for the owners of 'Copacabana' and the chief inspector of IMT

New details have emerged about yesterday evening's operation in Saranda against illegal constructions by order of the Prosecutor's Office, where 12 security measures were issued, 4 for officers, 4 for officials of the Saranda IMT and 4 for businessmen.

The Police Supervision Agency (AMP) announces that in addition to Kristofor Shkrepa, Kastriot Sotka has also been arrested, for whom a 'prison arrest' measure has been issued, and Blerim Tafçiu under 'house arrest', all accused of the criminal offense of 'Abuse of duty' committed more than once.

This operation is a continuation of the one undertaken on May 15 in the coastal area where the 'Copacabana' beach bar was discovered and demolished, leading to the dismissal of the leadership of the Saranda Police Station because they had turned a blind eye to illegality in exchange for bribes.

A security measure has also been issued for the owners of 'Copacabana' Arjola Dhrami Bajo and Xhaferr Bajon as well as for the owner of the 'Oasis' hotel Alqi Papa, who has been arrested. In this hotel, the Prosecution has seized a suspected floor built without permission on the terrace of the 6-story hotel on "Butrinti" street, in neighborhood no. 1 of the coastal city.
A security measure has also been issued for the chief inspector of the Territory Protection Inspectorate (IMT) Eduart Veliu as well as for the officer Irakli Koçiaj.

Let us recall that a few days ago, during an operation against unauthorized construction in Saranda, the head of the Police Station, Gëzim Bashllari, was also detained.

NATO, the Mediterranean and cyberattacks/ The Greek Minister of Defense 'deconstructs' the meetings in Tirana with Edi Rama

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias, in a statement on social media, has revealed other details after his visit to Albania, where he met with Prime Minister Edi Rama, his counterpart Ermal Nufi and Archbishop Joan.
Dendias says that he discussed with Nufi the deepening of relations in the field of defense and invited him for a visit to Athens.
While with Rama, the Greek minister says that he discussed the broader geopolitical panorama and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also gave a short message on his Facebook profile, after the meeting in Tirana with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.

Nikos Dendias' visit to Tirana marks the return of the parties to talks on the division of the maritime border. Since the Constitutional Court overturned the agreement signed by the Berisha government in Tirana, every other attempt by Prime Minister Rama's governments has failed.

Fredi Beleri gives the news/ Treaty to be concluded soon, Rama reaches agreement with Mitsotakis

MEP Fredi Beleri says that Albania and Greece aim to conclude the friendship treaty within the year and the two sides are negotiating all issues.

"When two countries talk, each of those countries puts its own claims and concerns on the table. I hear from both sides that we are negotiating everything and will conclude a friendship treaty within this year. I have no reason to doubt their statements and as a citizen who shares my life between the two countries, I would be very happy if they advanced and I want to say that it is not true that the best relations have been with the Greek left. I believe that the correct relations and agreements have been signed with the Greek right. Even the friendship treaty was right-wing in government when it was signed. It was Stefanopoulos," said the MEP.

Beleri said that the Greek Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who lead Greek foreign policy towards Albania and the Western Balkans, have discussed in the Greek parliament the European integration of the region and the advancement of relations with Albania.
