The Court of Appeal has changed the security measure for one of the private guards arrested after clashes with protesters in Zvërnec.
The appeal ruled that Gazmend Vathi be released from detention and investigated under "house arrest", changing the previous decision of the Vlora Court, which had imposed "prison arrest" on him. Meanwhile, for Artur Grani, the court left the prison arrest in effect.
Also, during the afternoon, the appeal of Geraldo Biba, owner of the private security company "Major Security", who also objects to the security measure imposed on him, was also considered.
The incident for which the private guards are being investigated occurred on May 31 in the Zvërnec area, where residents, activists and civil society representatives protested against construction works for a tourist resort in the Zvërnec area.
During the protest, there were clashes between protesters and employees of a private security company. Footage published in the media showed moments of violence, where one protester was dragged away.
After the event, the Prosecutor's Office launched investigations and security measures were issued for several employees of the private company, suspected of exercising violence against citizens, and the Vlora Police leadership was also dismissed.
