With this major event, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, attracted attention, albeit at least partially differently than he had planned.
For more than four million euros, Rama's government had built a concert arena named "Eagle Stadium" near Tirana airport, for the appearance of an extremely controversial star Kanye West, with the stage name "Ye", an American rapper, who in recent years has become constantly known for his anti-Semitic tirades, including various clearly positive statements about Hitler.
Although West, earlier this year, in a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal, addressed all "those I have hurt" and assured that "I am neither a Nazi nor an anti-Semite," and that his outbursts had been the result of "manic episodes," as he suffers from bipolar disorder, this was not enough to clear his image.
In countries such as the UK, Poland, Italy and India, his planned concerts were cancelled, often under pressure from the respective governments.
One day, Tirana would become the "world capital of music", promised Edi Rama.
But that's not how it happened in Albania. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, known as a ruthless pragmatist, on the one hand constantly appears as a staunch supporter of Israel.
On the other hand, he saw no reason to give up on the "Ye" spectacle last weekend, even though the Albanian Jewish Community had warned that such an event would not testify to "cultural opening, but to a moral contradiction."
Rama enthusiastically expressed in advance that the concert would bring "numerous benefits to tourism and the economy" and would make Tirana, for a day, the "world capital of music."
A long-awaited success in terms of image, which the prime minister, who is a visual artist by profession, would actually find very necessary.

In the days before Kanye West's concert, tens of thousands of people protested again in the streets of the capital, Tirana, to demand "dignity, justice and change" for their country.
Përpara Ministrisë së Kulturës u mblodhën gjithashtu artistë dhe artiste vendas për të protestuar kundër faktit që për një koncert të tillë, i cili sipas tyre i shërbente mbi të gjitha "marketingut politik të kryeministrit", shpenzoheshin më shumë se katër milionë euro para shtetërore, ndërkohë që "skena e pavarur kulturore shqiptare", në total, mezi përfiton gjysmë milioni euro subvencione shtetërore në vit. Sipas raportimeve të mediave shqiptare, qeveria kishte shpërndarë në shkallë të gjerë bileta për punonjësit e administratës shtetërore dhe për nxënësit e shkollave.
Madje edhe brenda stadiumit thuhet se janë dëgjuar thirrje që kërkonin dorëheqjen e kryeministrit.
Është një tjetër episod në përpjekjet e pasuksesshme të Ramës për të frenuar valën e protestave në vend.
Shkaku ishte një incident në fund të muajit maj në Lagunën e Nartës, një zonë e mbrojtur natyrore, aty ku lumi ende kryesisht i paprekur Vjosa derdhet në Mesdhe.

Kjo lëshoi urdhër-arreste ndaj disa personave, të cilët dyshohet se janë përfshirë në blerje e shitje tokash dhe pronash të paluajtshme, me qëllim pastrimin e parave nga trafiku ndërkombëtar i drogës. Sipas dyshimeve, pjesërisht bëhet fjalë edhe për toka në Lagunën e Nartës.
Atje, investitorë të ndryshëm planifikojnë ndërtimin e hoteleve luksoze, siç raportojnë mediat shqiptare prej rreth dy vitesh, ndërsa qeveria e ka konfirmuar këtë vetëm me hezitim.
Ndër ta, emri më i njohur është Jared Kushner, dhëndri i presidentit amerikan Donald Trump – megjithatë, sipas hetuesve, deri më tani nuk ka asnjë tregues që Kushner të ketë qenë në dijeni të aktiviteteve të tilla kriminale.
Prandaj, zemërimi i protestuesve drejtohet mbi të gjitha kundër qeverisë së tyre dhe mënyrës së saj jotransparente dhe të dyshuar për korrupsion në trajtimin e tokës ndërtimore dhe të peizazheve të mbrojtura.
Mosbesim të veçantë ka shkaktuar një ndryshim ligjor i vitit 2024, i cili bën të mundura projekte të tilla ndërtimi në zonat e mbrojtura.
The European Parliament, in mid-June, adopted a declaration in which it urged the government of Albania, a candidate country for EU membership, to stop construction work in protected natural areas and withdraw the law amendment.
What about Berlin?
In response to a question from Green Party member of the Bundestag, Boris Mijatović, the German government stated in early July that it "shares the European Commission's expectation that Albania will respect the standards of the European Union acquis"; in addition, it is following reports on this issue and participating "in the internal EU discussion".
"This inaction sends the wrong signal to the region," criticizes Mijatović.
"Anyone who takes the European environmental acquis and the EU membership criteria seriously must act early."
The federal government, according to him, should "use its political influence to oppose further encroachment on the protected area."
Whether Edi Rama himself believes that Kanye West's concert has brought him the long-awaited change in image remains doubtful.
He, who is usually quite communicative on his social media channels, on the X platform limited himself to reposting a statement by the rapper.
