The movement that began for Zvernec has turned into a broad revolt against the political establishment. Protesters speak of an Albania held hostage by the politics of the last 35 years and demand a complete change of the ruling class.

The protest that began 12 days ago over the projects in Zvernec and the southern protected areas has now turned into a much broader movement against the Albanian political class. Thousands of citizens gathered this Sunday in Skanderbeg Square, to then march towards the Prime Minister's Office, in what organizers consider a civic revolt against the entire political establishment.

Unlike the traditional protests of recent years, today's rally is not just about calling out Edi Rama's government. A large portion of the protesters openly express their opposition to the opposition and the political figures who have dominated Albanian public life over the past three decades.

Among the citizens gathered in the square was a pensioner, who said that the protest must continue until the end and that the only hope for change remains the youth.

" I am in protest and I will continue. I came out to remove this government, they became kings. Instead of being a servant of the people, he mocks the people. I am a leftist but he mocks the people. If this protest did not have a product, Albania is in hell. And this will be done by the youth and only the youth. As it has started and not to leave it until the end ," he said.

It is precisely the role of young people and the participation of Albanians from the diaspora that are being considered one of the most special elements of this movement, which has managed to maintain the same pace of protests without incidents for 12 days.

One of the most active protesters, Arben Kola, said that the movement has now transcended the Zvernec issue and has turned into a revolt against the political system established after the '90s.

" From the first day this protest started and I led it, I want to say that the problems of 35 years cannot be solved in 10 days. We are against the duo who have taken the country hostage, we are against the duo, Rama-Berisha ," he said.

According to Kola, the scale of the protests inside and outside Albania shows that we are dealing with a movement that is not controlled by political parties.

" Have you ever seen such synchronized rallies, all over the world where there are Albanians? If they knew who he is, they would have caught him. But since it is the will of the people, they have nothing to do. The biggest blackmails and threats come from people close to the opposition ," he said.

Kola claims that the protest is not directed only against the current government, but against the entire political class that has run the country for the last 35 years.

" Ramavic and Sali Berishovic have taken Albania hostage. They will be overthrown because 6 million Albanians have come out. Here we are not only against Edi Rama and Belinda Balluku, but against the politics of 35 years ," the protester said.

Albanians from abroad also participated in the protest. A young man from Germany said he will continue to join the rallies until, according to him, the entire old political class leaves.

" We are protesting against the entire old establishment. All the anger accumulated over decades has begun to be released into the square. I came from Germany for the protest and I will come again until Rama and this political class leave. There are infinitely many young people who have come from the diaspora ," he said.

As the crowd marches towards the Prime Minister's Office, the 12th day of protest is increasingly confirming the transformation of a local cause for the protection of Zvernec into a broad civic movement, which aims to challenge not only the government, but the entire political model that has dominated Albania for the last three decades.
