Exchange of fire in Mamurras, Prençi shows where the police went wrong:

Former senior State Police official, Shemsi Prençi, has commented on the police operation in Mamurras, which escalated to the use of firearms and left a 23-year-old wanted man injured.

Prençi defended the intervention of the officers, where one of them even tried to crash into a car belonging to the wanted person, Leonard Dema. He stated that the police acted in dangerous conditions and that the use of weapons was justified.

Prençi stressed that over 230 police officers have been killed over the last 35 years, arguing that officers have often faced dangerous criminal groups without proper operational support and preparation.

According to him, the operation in Mamurras was a high-risk intervention and the area is known for strong criminal problems, where the "strong" are not afraid to attack law enforcement.

"We should have had a Kalashnikov here and shot him for the police to shoot. For a long time, police have not been trained to open fire to neutralize an armed element. 230 or so police officers killed in 35 years."

The Lezha Directorate did not have time to wait for specialized structures such as RENEA and FNSH. Unorganized police do not dare to enter Mamurras. It has happened hundreds of times that the strong have attacked the police.

"They are used to seeing patrols with people, in this case they understood that it was an operation. I commend the work done by the Lezha police, who have intervened to resolve an issue for which they received information from the Italian side," he told "News 24".
