Journalist Artan Hoxha showed another reality from Albanian prisons, revealing that a school also operates in the Reç prison for convicts who have not completed basic or secondary education.
Invited to the show "Off the Record" on A2CNN, Hoxha said that during a visit to the Malësia e Madhe area, he had learned about the presence of a teacher in the Reç prison.
" In the Reç prison, I met a teacher in Malësia e Madhe a week ago. She had entered and was teaching in the Reç prison. So there were people in the Reç prison who had not finished high school, or 8-year school, and a school had been opened there, it existed inside the prison, I was surprised. It is similar to the night schools of the past, or correspondence schools, and the convicts come with pleasure, because they not only pass the time, but also read ," the journalist said.
Hoxha also recalled the serious incident that occurred in Peqin prison at the end of 2023, raising questions about security within penitentiary institutions.
" If you remember, on December 15, 2023, Arben Lleshi was in the high-security prison in Peqin, and he goes and kills another prisoner, but with a life sentence. A murder is happening in prison, but the mechanism that was used to insert the weapon, this is the big problem ," Hoxha declared.
