Chronic heart diseases continue to be the leading cause of death in Albania. According to data published by INSTAT for 2025, circulatory diseases accounted for 42.2% of all deaths. A year earlier, in 2024, they represented 39% of natural deaths.

In second place are tumor diseases, which caused 15.2% of deaths during 2025, an unchanged percentage compared to the previous year. According to statistics, the most widespread are tumors of the digestive system, while men are more affected than women.

The report also highlights an increase in deaths due to accidents. During 2025, they accounted for 2.2% of deaths, up from 1.9% in 2024.

The data also show clear differences by age group. In children, the leading cause of death remains complications related to birth. While in young people, physical injuries and poisoning dominate. For the elderly, diseases constitute the main cause of loss of life, with 72.9% of cases.

According to INSTAT, women have a higher life expectancy than men, while old-age-related deaths are more frequent among them. In total, 21,394 deaths were recorded in Albania during 2025, or 3.2% less compared to 2024.
