Haçkaj: Rama is trying to intimidate protesters, but this will not stop

Diaspora activist: We don't want a state ruled by one person

Albanian diaspora activist Florian Haçkaj has described Prime Minister Edi Rama's attacks as an attempt to intimidate protesters and divert attention from the core of the civic revolt.

Invited to Pamflet's podcast "Të Pashoj", Haçkaj stated that personal attacks will not scare the citizens who have come out to protest, while accusing the prime minister of acting outside his institutional role.

" The attacks are a total illegality and he scores an own goal with what he does. People should not neglect this and should not be intimidated. Maybe he thinks that with these attacks he will scare the citizens, but we don't care at all. We are within our rights. At least I speak for myself, I am not afraid. I am not attacking anyone personally, I am only denouncing misgovernment. We want a state of law in Albania, we do not want a state where one person rules ," Haçkaj said.

The activist also commented on the repeated statements of the prime minister, who has spoken about the involvement of foreign agencies in the protest and the verification of people participating in the rallies.

According to Haçkaj, if there are suspicions of illegal activities, they should be investigated by competent institutions and not used as a political argument by the prime minister.

" Of course, let the state prove them. But not the prime minister, because it is not his duty. We do not live in Rama's private state. We have the SHISH and other institutions that have the duty to investigate. Whoever is part of the agencies, let them face responsibility. But what is happening today is an attempt to kill the protest. Protests are free spirits. If five or ten people speak on the microphone, there are thousands of free citizens in the square protesting. They should be heard, not asked for excuses and 'clues' to discredit them ," Haçkaj declared.

His statements come at a time when the civic protest has entered its 32nd day, while the debate between the government and the organizers of the movement has also shifted to social networks, with constant accusations and counter-accusations.
