Silvio Gonzato, the EU Ambassador to Albania, has signaled that he supports the idea of a review of the justice reform.
While the majority has given clear signals for the review of a number of laws, Gonzato has stated that there is a need for improvement.
According to him, citizens are not touching the results, as he said that after 10 years there is a need for a balance sheet.
" A constructive dialogue aimed at improving the performance of the justice system to make it more accountable to citizens, because, I was talking about SPAK, but the ordinary justice system suffers from many delays, stagnation, citizens do not really see justice, they do not have access to the justice they deserve. So, a discussion on these issues is fully justified and it is a discussion in which we are ready to engage ," the ambassador told "Euronews Albania".
While commenting on the clashes between justice and politics, he stated that he sees it as positive. However, according to him, the line between debates and personal attacks must be maintained.
" Tensions can be positive, because if we talk about tensions between the executive on the one hand and the judiciary on the other, but which depend on each other, this is almost normal, I would say. If you look at the debates in other European countries, you always find politicians who sometimes criticize the judiciary, the judiciary that opposes, etc. So, I'm not worried about that. I think it's part of a dialogue that needs to take place, because after the reform, the justice reform that was undertaken in 2016, we are 10 years later, there may be things that need to be addressed in terms of providing greater protections for the rights of defendants, etc. ," he said.
