The tragic toll from the earthquakes that struck Venezuela continues to mount. Authorities announced that the death toll has reached 1,719, while thousands more have been injured or left homeless.

The news was confirmed by the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, who declared on state television that 1,719 deaths have been recorded so far, while 5,034 people have been injured by the two earthquakes that struck the country shortly after 6:00 p.m. local time last Wednesday.

According to him, the disaster has also left 15,866 people homeless, while rescue teams continue operations in the most affected areas.
