"People have brought trouble to the streets," Dervishi: Here you only
Lutfi Dervishi

Journalist Lutfi Dervishi said that the civic protest, which today marked its 30th day, is a reflection of the deep social and economic dissatisfaction that citizens have with the way the state and economy function in Albania.

According to Dervishi, the element that unites all the protesters is the daily hardship and the feeling that the citizen is left out of the attention of the institutions. He emphasized that there is a huge gap between the government's promises and the reality experienced by Albanian families.

"When you hear a protester with a child in her arms say that she receives a salary of 400 thousand lek, while paying the same amount for rent, you immediately understand that the common denominator of the people who have come out to the streets is trouble. They were not brought out by Turkey or Greece, but by the dissatisfaction accumulated over years. This is a revolt that stems from the daily reality of citizens," he told "A2 CNN."

Dervishi assessed that the protest goes beyond criticism of the government, describing it as a reaction to the economic model that, according to him, favors clientelism and connections to power.

"This is a protest against evil Albanian capitalism, against a system where you don't get rich because you are innovative, skilled or smart, but because you have close ties to the government. The dissatisfaction is not only towards the government, but also towards the political and economic elite that has built this model," he continued.

The journalist added that the dissatisfaction affects different layers of society, including young people, public administration and former supporters of the majority.

"Maybe this is also a dissatisfaction towards us and rightly so, because people say they have seen us for 35 years without bringing the change they expected. It is the dissatisfaction of a new generation that does not want to leave Albania, but finds it impossible to build a life here. I also see people from the administration, former socialists and ordinary citizens. Everyone is united by dissatisfaction, but the problem is still not being addressed," he said.

In conclusion, Dervishi stated that the solution requires a "reset" of the political and institutional system, emphasizing that the responsibility falls on the government, the opposition, and the Albanian elite.
