Protest coordinator: From attacking the movement, it moved to biographies of citizens. This shows the government's desperation

One of the coordinators of the civic protest, Edison Lika, has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of attempting to influence the protest, moving from attacks on the movement to personal attacks on the protesters.

Invited to the Pamphlet's "Të Pashoj" podcast, Lika said that the government could not label the protest as a party action, so according to him, it chose to deal with specific individuals.

" The government had a problem with this protest because it did not know how to attack it. If it were a regular opposition protest, it would have been very easy to stereotype it. But this movement turned into an anti-system protest and could not be identified with a single face. Precisely for this reason, it became increasingly difficult for the government to attack it. Then it had to choose a character on which to build its entire narrative and, in my opinion, it chose Dritan Goxhaj ," Lika said.

He denied that Dritan Goxhaj's reading of the protest demands had any behind-the-scenes implications, emphasizing that the statement was also read by other organizers.

" Dritani is one of the protesters, just as coincidentally as I am. That statement was read by Dritani, by me, by Sidorela, by Arbëri and by others. It is a text that is read every day to show citizens why we are in the square. It was completely intentional on the part of the government not to deal with our demands, but with the person who was reading them ," he declared.

According to Lika, the prime minister is now trying to discredit the protesters by seeking elements from their past.

" It seems like the prime minister has started looking for a stain on the biography of every protester. For me, this is depressing. He no longer deals with ideas, creativity, or the massiveness of the protest, but with very small things from people's lives. I'm not discussing whether what he says is true or not. The problem is that a prime minister has fallen to the point of dealing with citizens' biographies and not with their demands ," said the protest coordinator.

Lika compared this approach to past practices, saying that, according to him, the government is seeking to label citizens instead of confronting the protest.

" To me, this resembles a regime that seeks stains on people's biographies. The Prime Minister no longer talks about ideas, no longer talks about vision, no longer talks about the reasons why thousands of citizens are in the square. One of the MEPs who was in Tirana even said a sentence that I will always remember: 'The Albanian people are ready for the European Union, but the Albanian government is not' ", said Lika.
