On the evening of June 9-10, 1990, two friends from Orman Pojani in Korça, aged 25 and 27 respectively, attempted to escape through the Sheleguri Border Post in the Kolonja District. The young men had heard that crossing the border was no longer called “treason against the homeland”. Fatmir Duro intended to leave because he had people in Australia, while his friend, who was getting married in a few days, intended to recover economically. In the early hours of June 10, 1990 (the time of the murder is contradictory with the intention of manipulation), border soldiers caught up with them. They killed 27-year-old Fatmir Duro. The entire post, headed by the commander, was on its feet.

They did not hide their satisfaction that they "killed one". The deceased Fatmir is seen in the photo massacred with one of the strangest wounds that can bring a murder. The other person was able to flee the crime scene, but was arrested by a policeman in Barmash. He was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison for attempting to cross the border illegally.

Ministry of Interior's Communiqué No. 136, dated 11.6.1990

On 10.6.1990, Irfan Sali Liçi, 27 years old, resident of Orman Pojan, Korça, cooperative member, was detained because his external characteristics are identical to the border violator who fled in an unknown direction in an attempt with the border unit of the Shelegur border post. In the attempt at 8.00, 10.6.1990, Fatmir Ismail Duro, resident of Orman - Pojan, Korça, was killed for an illegal attempt to cross the border.

On June 9, 1990, at the Shelegur border crossing in Ersekë, Fatmir Smail Duro, 25, and Irfan Sali Liçi, 27, both residents of the village of Orman in the Korça district, attempted to cross the border into Greece.

The district investigation initiated a criminal case for illegal border crossing. On 9.6.1990 at around 24.00, Irfani, in collaboration with Fatmir, attempted to cross the border illegally.

Both of these people were confronted by the border unit near the border post in the Shelegur village sector. They were called to surrender, but they did not stop.

The border unit shot and killed Fatmir Duro. His body was sent to his family. Irfani was able to leave temporarily, but was caught after a few hours and arrested. On 17.6.1990 he was sent to court.

Testimony of the investigation, Irfan Lici, from the wedding, at the border and in prison

Mendimi i Fatmirit se do të mund të iknim e do i sillnim para familjes, ma prishi mendjen.

Kemi zbritur deri te vendi ku dukej piramida.

We stayed there until the light broke. When it got dark, Fatmir told me to continue on my way. We passed a place with wires that made noise. We heard the voices of soldiers and turned back. We stayed in retreat until the noise was no longer heard. It was 7:00. We ran to the right flank to avoid the soldiers. We saw a crate there, but Fatmir told me not to step on it, because it was giving a signal. We crossed the soft strip, walking over stones, so as not to give a signal. There was a hedge with bushes there. Fatmir held me by the arm, because I have a sciatic nerve.

Then we crossed a thin wire, which was tied to some poles. As we climbed to the top of the mountain, Fatmir told me that this was supposed to be the border, but we had to be careful because it was a bare place. When we started running away, the soldiers shot at us. I ran away, I didn't see Fatmir where he went. I came out into a wooded field, where a villager was harvesting grass. I asked him for directions to Leskovik. Then I ran away on the way to Ersekë. I walked on foot. In Barmash, a policeman asked me who I was. He asked for my ID. I showed him and lied, but he took me to the Internal Affairs Department, Ersekë./ Memorie.al
