An escape attempt was recorded yesterday afternoon at Shënkoll prison, where convict Adriano Berisha, 31, attempted to leave during an outdoor activity.
The incident occurred while Berisha was participating in a waste management process, under the supervision of prison security staff. After about 500 meters from the perimeter of the institution, he was stopped and immediately returned to his cell, without causing any incidents or danger to the staff and the surrounding area.
Shënkoll Prison has announced that the prosecution and the Internal Control Service of Prisons have been informed after the incident, while investigative procedures have been initiated to clarify the circumstances of the incident. The institution has also stated that it is reviewing organizational and security measures to avoid similar cases in the future.

On December 11, 2025, at the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions IMP Lezhë, which functions as a special medical institution, an attempt was made to remove from the institution's premises a person to whom the medical measure "compulsory treatment in a medical institution" had been imposed, by court decision.
The incident occurred at around 09:30, during an auxiliary activity for the arrangement of waste in the external regime of the institution, under the supervision of security employees. During this process, the person in question crossed the external perimeter wire, attempting to leave the territory of the institution.
Immediately after the discovery, at around 09:33, he was apprehended and neutralized near the institution by the responsible employees, without any resistance or opposition on his part and without any incident or danger to the employees or the community.
We emphasize that the Lezha Penitentiary is a special medical institution, where security measures adapted to patients are implemented and not for convicts or detainees. This category of persons is treated in a differentiated manner, in accordance with the legislation in force and medical and human rights standards.
Immediately after the event, the competent structures, including the Lezha General Jurisdiction Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Prison Control Service (IPCS), were notified to continue the relevant legal and administrative procedures.
The institution continues to operate normally, while organizational and security measures are being reviewed preventively, in order to further improve management and the safety of patients and staff.
