The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 1,450, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, announced. According to him, 774 buildings have been damaged, while 189 of them have completely collapsed. A day earlier, authorities had reported 1,430 deaths.

Rodríguez described the disaster as the worst natural disaster in the country's history. Meanwhile, international media reports that the number of missing people is estimated at around 70,000, while hopes of finding survivors under the rubble are fading as the hours pass.

More than 85 hours have passed since the first seismic shock, but rescue teams continue the search, estimating that some people may have survived if they had access to water and food.

A moment of hope came from the town of La Guaira, where an 11-year-old boy was pulled alive from the rubble after an operation that lasted more than six hours. The operation was carried out by the Colombian Disaster Risk Management team. The child was found next to his mother and sister, who had also died, trapped under about three meters of rubble.

Colombian authorities announced that the rescue was accomplished thanks to the use of specialized equipment and the work of the USAR COL-1 team, consisting of 63 specialists and four search dogs, certified according to the United Nations' international INSARAG standards.

Earlier, another 11-year-old boy was pulled alive from the rubble in the town of Caraballeda, more than 72 hours after the earthquakes. The news was confirmed by Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, giving a morale boost to rescue teams as they continue operations in the affected areas.
