Over 120 Albanian academics and intellectuals living and working in different countries around the world have publicly expressed their support for the protest in Albania and the protesters' demands for a "new Albania".

Through a joint declaration, the signatories have considered legitimate demands for more accountable, transparent and fair governance, as well as for institutions that serve citizens and not the government.

In their statement, diaspora academics also link the current crisis to the situation in education, science and innovation. According to them, the policies pursued over the years have tolerated the underfunding of the sector, the lack of meritocracy, the weakening of academic integrity and the creation of clientelistic ties, hindering the long-term development of the country.

" Without quality education, without serious scientific research, without innovation and without meritocracy, there can be no sustainable development, competitive economy or strong democratic institutions ," the statement of support states.

The signatories emphasize that the lack of sustainable funding, political interference in universities, fragile academic autonomy, and the disconnection of education from economic development are part of the same crisis that, according to them, citizens are opposing through protests.

At the conclusion of the statement, the academics express their willingness to contribute their expertise and experience to the process of reforming institutions and building a new governance model in the public interest.

Meanwhile, Albanian activist in Berlin, Oneda Vruzhaj, announced that several protest marches will take place from Shkodra to Tirana in the coming days, with the largest ones planned for June 20 and 23.

Invited to a television interview, Vruzhaj stated that numerous groups of Albanians from the diaspora, including from Berlin, are organizing to travel to Albania and join the rallies.

She said that the protest has created a spirit of mobilization among Albanians living abroad, especially among young people, calling on citizens not to give up and to continue supporting the initiative that aims for political and institutional changes in the country.
