Goxhaj denies political ambitions: I am not part of the protest leadership

Following the political attacks and accusations of recent days, another debate has opened up about Dritan Goxhaj's role in the civic protest. Voices have increased on social networks and in television studios that present him as one of the figures who could take a leading role in the movement that has been protesting against the government for weeks.

Asked by journalist Edjona Dervishi on the Pamphlet podcast “Të Pashoq” whether he has political ambitions or intends to become a rival of Prime Minister Edi Rama, Goxhaj categorically denied any leading role in organizing the protest. He explained that he is not part of the coordination group, does not participate in decision-making, and that reading the protesters’ demands was simply a task entrusted to him by the organizers.

Interview:

Edjona Dervishi: Appearing in this protest, made the subject of strong debate by the government, attacked from the first day you took office with the officialization of the five demands of the protesters who have been in the square for three weeks and will likely continue, and will not give up. How far does your ambition go? Because there is so much that these days, these hours are implying that, why not, you could even be shaped as a direct rival of Prime Minister Rama tomorrow.

Dritan Goxhaj: No. Defining it as ambition doesn't hold up. First of all, when you say ambition, it's not about ambition, because I'm not even part of the protest coordination group. So I'm not part of the protest coordination group.

Edjona Dervishi: Neither coordinator, nor organizer, nothing?

Dritan Goxhaj: I'm not. The coordinating group is also the organizing group. I'm not part of them.

Edjona Dervishi: Well, that doesn't rule out anything.

Dritan Goxhaj: I am not part of them, I am not part of their decision-making. They make decisions collectively, with a vote for every action they take. I am not part of it at all. So I am not part of that decision.

Edjona Dervishi: But if you are not part of it, then under what guise did you formalize the requests?

Dritan Goxhaj: The coordinating group decided to make the demands official and they asked me to read these demands officially. I stated that day as well. I said that, at the request of the coordinating group, I am reading their statement.

Edjona Dervishi: Why did they choose you?

Dritan Goxhaj: I don't think there was any particular purpose. The only purpose was to be someone who is not a member of the group. Because, if he were a member of the group, tomorrow these discussions about ambition, support or leadership claims could arise.

For this reason, in order not to create divisions within the group in the near or distant future, not knowing how long this confrontation between the resistance of the prime minister and the resistance of the citizens will last, a person who is not part of the group was chosen.

So, whatever happens tomorrow, it doesn't divide the group and doesn't create internal problems that could harm the protest.
