During the hearing held at the Administrative Court regarding the lawsuit filed by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, against prosecutor Ols Dado, there were moments of tension between Veliaj and the trial panel.
The mayor raised concerns about the process and accused prosecutor Dado of not having completed the Magistrates' School. In his speech, Veliaj also focused on the leadership of the Municipality of Tirana, stating that for 500 days the city has been administered by people who, according to him, have not received a mandate from the voters.
"In your country I would be worried if I were in your country, because the KLP lady lied openly the first time about a man who became a prosecutor with 5. The lady said that there was a meeting when in fact there was none. I am living proof that no one is above the law. But also no one should be under the protection of the law without right. The other lawyer laughs, he is right to laugh, but I am here 500 days in prison from a notary with 5. Ols Dado did not become a magistrate, everyone knows. Did Bamir Topi come out and openly say "a friend would do it to his friend"?
The city has been left without a stand for 500 days. Tirana is being treated like loot by people who were not voted for. Today Tirana is run by people who were not voted for by anyone. You must restore dignity to this session. Not only tell someone not to joke around and laugh, but tell someone else not to lie. The lawyer is right. God, you are in this session. How is the Supreme Court of Justice doing? If this reasoning continues, then we will wait in vain…”, said Veliaj.
The High Prosecutorial Council, which has requested the Court not to legitimize Veliaj as a plaintiff, has not sent a representative to the currently ongoing session. While prosecutor Dado has sent his defense attorney to the session.
"The KLP is absent in this entire process, not just today. The KLP does not respond. Just as you order the public to delete the footage, order the KLP to respond. I say that it is not mandatory for a body that has no voice to express itself to be absent. It is better in the absence of the KLP than in its absence," said Veliaj.
Veliaj is present at the hearing himself, while the trial will not be allowed to be broadcast live.
Cameras will only be in the courtroom when interim or final decisions are made, and the broadcast of the technical part at the start of the trial was not even allowed.
Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has sued SPAK prosecutor Ols Dado and is seeking the annulment of the presidential decree that appointed the prosecutor to office in 2008.
