They are like hundreds of girls and women around the world who are promised a better life and who, unfortunately, get caught in the webs of traffickers and are forced into prostitution.
Stefania lived in Colombia and applied for a job in Albania. Her goal was to work as a nightclub dancer. But today she, along with several other girls from Colombia, are accused of prostitution, with a blocked passport that prevents them from leaving, and, on top of all that, without any help.
" We are Colombians, we came here deceived by people who brought us, because we came with the intention of dancing. When we arrived here, we had debts and they told us that we had to pay, staying here and working as prostitutes. We agreed to do it, pay off the debt and then leave. When we were about to return, they arrested us at the airport ," said Stefania.
But police authorities tell TCH that another scheme is being used to practice prostitution by foreign nationals, who, as results from some cases, travel to Albania and stay for two to four months, being replaced by others.
" We do sexy dances in front of men, but we are not prostitutes. To come to Albania and work, we found a contact, because the situation in Colombia is not good. We are single mothers and we thought of a way to make money. When we came here, we realized that we were not for that job, but that we had fallen into a prostitution ring. These people have been identified by the authorities and one of them is in prison ," she added.
The girls have families in Medellin and are asking for help to leave, although the case against them has just been closed and they are expected to be tried, like many others, in absentia.
" We have been in Pogradec for two months in detention. Now that the process has started, we have two months in Tirana and the verifications are still ongoing. They are not letting us leave. We do not have passports because they were taken from us. We are homeless, without food and so far a foundation has helped us ," Stefania concluded. / Top Channel
