Over 20 firefighters face mountainous terrain without specialized equipment; urgent air intervention required
A large-scale fire has engulfed Mount Dukat in Vlora since the early hours of the morning, burning down hundreds of pines, firs and other trees. The flames, spread by the wind, are climbing towards the top of the mountain and risk engulfing the Llogara National Park if the wind direction does not change.
There are 20 firefighters on the scene, facing extreme working conditions as the rugged mountainous terrain makes it impossible for firefighting vehicles to enter. Unable to use heavy equipment, they are using makeshift tools like shovels and tree branches to try to contain the flames.
Local authorities have requested urgent air intervention, as the situation is deteriorating and any delay could cause irreparable damage to the area's ecosystem. The alarm has been raised for Llogara, one of the most important natural and tourist areas in the country.
