After Chair Airlines, Scandinavian operator Ving also cancels summer program to Vlora due to lack of certifications and non-opening of the airport
The clash between the partners of Vlora International Airport is becoming the main obstacle to the implementation of one of the most important infrastructure projects in the country.
The conflict between the Swiss company "Mabco Constructions", linked to businessman Behgjet Pacolli, and the Albanian company "2A Group" has led to a blockage of works, delays in the certification process and is forcing more and more airlines and tour operators to cancel scheduled flights to Vlora.
After Chair Airlines, which canceled the Zurich-Vlora route, the Scandinavian operator Ving has also given up on its summer program for Albania, as the airport has not yet received the necessary certifications and approvals for international air traffic.
According to an article published by Danish media BT.dk , tour operator Ving has canceled its summer program for Albania, which included direct charter flights from Oslo to the new Vlora airport.
From Vlora, tourists would then travel to destinations such as Orikumi, Saranda and Dhërmi. But the plan failed to materialize, as the airport did not receive the necessary certifications and approvals for international operations.
As a result, Sunclass Airlines, part of Ving's program, was unable to operate the scheduled flights and the entire summer program was canceled.
According to the report, this initiative included not only departures from Norway, but also from Denmark and Sweden through the Nordic Leisure Travel Group, of which Ving is a part.
Ving's head of Norway, Marie-Anne Zachrisson, described the decision as sad, stating that the company will postpone the program until it is certain that Vlora airport is fully operational.
All customers who had booked holidays to Albania through Ving have been refunded and offered assistance in finding another destination. The company did not disclose the number of travelers affected.
This is another clear signal that the delays in the opening of the airport are producing real costs for tourism and the credibility of the project. Earlier, the Swiss company Chair Airlines also canceled plans for flights on the Zurich-Vlora route, shifting them to Ohrid.
Vlora Airport was envisioned to serve as the main air gateway for southern Albania, at a time when the country is experiencing strong tourism growth and is increasingly being promoted as a more economical alternative to destinations such as Italy, Croatia and Greece.
However, the conflict between the concession company's shareholders, the blockage of works, and the lack of certifications have caused the project to remain out of operation.
Under these conditions, the airport that was expected to bring more tourists to the south of the country is becoming a source of uncertainty for airlines, tour operators and the summer season itself. / Pamphlet
