Elson Himallari excelled yesterday with a goal, while the U-17 National Team drew 1-1 against Poland. The 16-year-old Partizan talent was activated in the second half by coach Fatjon Tafaj. It was the 54th minute, when Himallari entered the field. And just 13 minutes later he scored a very nice goal. He recovered the ball himself in the opposing midfield and dribbled past the Polish opponents, before finding the net.
The U-17 national team was disputed for its appearances, after the historic European Championship in May. None of the footballers in the Superiore age groups were invited, while Partizan's U-17 team itself had won the championship. Himallari's case is one of the episodes where the invitation is missing without concrete reasons. This is because in the U-14, U-15 and most recently U-16 age groups, Himallari has been declared the leading scorer in the Superiore.
Fulvio Pea, technical director at the Albanian Football Association (AFH) who is directly in charge of the lists, has had his influence to remove him from the plans. The lack of invitation of Elson Himallari to the U-17 National Team in August, brought surprise to the Partizan club. The 16-year-old talent, with minutes on foot from the Conference League, was not considered for the two friendlies with Italy. It was the pressure of the Reds afterwards, that influenced his call-up in September.
Albania U-17 is in Poland for the "Syrenka Cup" tournament. Also invited by Partizan are Dion Vata, Robin Balla and Frensi Mali. Vara, another 16-year-old who has made his debut with Partizan's first team, started against Poland. The next challenge for the red and blacks will be tomorrow, against Norway at 13:00. The last one will take place against Romania, on September 9 at 11:00.
