The former coach of the Albanian National Team, Astrit Hafizi, thinks that coach Silvinjo will be the one who will ultimately be responsible for all the choices he has made in his list for "EURO 2024". In an interview given to "Vizion", he spoke about the uncertainty that was created due to the fact that Silvinjo did not explain his choices and that even the players left out already had to talk about this created situation.
Also, he called to avoid excessive euphoria with statements before the activity, especially from the leaders of the AFL and team members, in order not to create false expectations in a difficult group.
What is your comment on the list announced by Silvinjo?
To be honest, I was not impressed. There are things that are exclusively for the coach, the choice of the players. We must accept them and take them for granted. I think it is important for Silvinho not to have any hostages, not to have any ambiguity with himself or any possibility that later makes him regret, to be clear and clean with himself. Then the coach of the national team will receive the bill for this, for better or for worse.
Three are the most important names excluded: Cikalleshi, Uzuni and Bare. In your opinion, are they technical choices or other reasons?
I listened to Silvinho's press conference. I found it a bit contradictory with the players he has taken and with the players he has left out in the explanations he was giving for various reasons. I did not find out if the injured were part, or were they in the absence of activation and their form not at 100%?? So there were some moments where it collided somewhere. So what she thought and what she thought with what she had said, or what was on the list.
If we refer to the return of some players, such as Abrashi or Gjasula, I think we are dealing with a return which he explained that one of them has the soul, has the heart, has that grit in the team. And so we can say without fear that until now this grit brought by Abrashi was missing in the team, it was not there in the qualifiers, it was not this fight, this spirit. Or another aspect is experience, the experience that the coach mentioned. Again, we have not had experience in the qualifiers. In fact, we have had players of all categories in the qualifiers. One of them was Cikalleshi, a more experienced player, from which we can also benefit a lot, except that his matches were more defensive than offensive in the tasks he took. It wasn't his fault.
Some others are out of shape, don't have 100% playing minutes? I'm here for Silvinho because we don't have the luxury of leaving out players who don't play much. We are not a big nation to have plenty of choices, we are Albania. I am just taking one example. If we were to act on this standard, then the first to be left off the list and not have to play would be the two goalkeepers, despite all the praise I have for both of them that they are good goalkeepers, especially Berisha, who in 2016, it was one of our strongest points in Europe and that pushed us forward. We cannot put Kastrati in the game since he is activated in the clubs, since Berisha and Strakosha do not have minutes. I always talk about these conditions where we are.
Does Albania have the luxury of leaving out a player like Uzuni who has played regularly in La Liga?
This is a problem that has often been talked about in the press. I don't know where it came from, maybe from the media. That his sports form has not been very good because he has been sick and has sometimes played with needles in the Granada team. And maybe this could be some reason to find an argument that his form has not been good, and it is better to fully recover. These can be versions. But it is important that as for Uzun, as for Cikallesh, as for other players who were not taken, there must be a correct definition of the reason why they are not taken. That are not the reasons I mentioned.
We have to wait for the reaction of the players, who in fact in some cases do not tell the truth why they did not come to the national team. If the coach says that the reason is health, you must refute him and say it is not health. If it's for form, you have to refute that too. But I have noticed that a good part of the players, including Cikalleshi, do not do this. Even Cikalleshi himself, when he was uncommitted at the time of Panuc. In any case, in his non-inclusion in the national team, he did not assume who the truth is. Panucci talked about delays and incorrectness which he never refuted. Then when he went with Reja, I'm saying this as an example, because I'm really sorry that he's not in the group because he gave a lot to the national team, he started attacking public opinion; saying: Here the skeptics find out who I am.
In short, I say that the players in such cases should speak out, not protect themselves. I am also talking about Uzun, who I heard was not going to gather, because he did not salute after a match, and for that he is now punished. This is not normal. In these cases the players should speak up if there are such situations.
How far can this national team go?
We must be very careful in giving the conclusions of the interviews, the players, the staff, the leaders of the federation when they take it upon themselves to give some opinions on the objectives, because then in case of non-realization we must ask for an account on the attitudes that this national team will hold for a long time long in Germany. But I refer here to the last interview of the head of the federation, or do we skip the group when he says something else. This does not seem very clear to me and is not very correct.
We must know who we are, know ourselves... Normally, considering how much we seek to know the opponent, it is just as important to know ourselves, that by knowing ourselves very well, with our feet on the ground, we can get and have a cleaner logic for the opponent. We often analyze the opponent more than ourselves, who we are and how we got there.
With the solution of these puzzles, this national team, I think, if we manage to come third in the group, we can also come second or first because everything happens in football, but looking at the group as if we leave one team behind, I think we have achieved the greatest success in the history of our football.
