Arne Slot's future as Liverpool manager remains a topic of discussion after a difficult 2025/26 season. The Dutchman's popularity was boosted by a dramatic victory in the Merseyside derby on Sunday, but there are still question marks with Liverpool in fifth place in the Premier League and out of any cup competitions.
Many names have been mentioned as a possible successor to Slot, with many fans calling for Jurgen Klopp to return.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has also been linked with a move to the bench after leaving Real Madrid earlier this season. But another former Liverpool icon has been brought into the fold in former Spain striker Fernando Llorente.
In an interview with Hajper, Llorente claimed that his compatriot Fernando Torres could be a candidate for the head coach role at Anfield.
"Fernando Torres as Liverpool manager one day? Definitely. He has followed a different path to Cesc Fabregas, has been patient and has preferred to start little by little with the youth team, gaining experience ," said Llorente.
" I think Fernando will become a great coach because he has had an extraordinary career, knows a lot about football and is probably prepared for the right moment to take this step ," he said.
Torres is currently the head coach of Atletico Madrid B and has guided his team to third place in their division this season.
The Liverpool job is likely to be a long way off for El Nino, but his former teammate Alonso has already enjoyed success at the highest level as a manager. He has been linked with Manchester United as well as Liverpool, but Llorente expects him to favour a move to the latter.
"Knowing Xabi, I think he would prefer to manage Liverpool instead of Manchester United. But right now he is a manager without a team, and whether Liverpool don't need to change managers, and Manchester United do and make him an offer, you never know. In football anything can happen, we have seen many managers who have managed the rivals of their former clubs ," he said.
