Corinthians have decided not to appoint Silvinho as the team's new coach, ending speculation in recent days. The Brazilian club officially introduced Fernando Diniz as the new coach, thus closing any possibility of the Albanian national team coach returning to the team's bench.
Diniz, 52, comes after his most recent experience managing Vasco da Gama, also in Brazil.
Silvinjo's future remains open
Silvinjo is currently in charge of the Albanian National Team and has previously stated that he will respect his contract with the Albanian Football Federation until July. After this deadline, his future remains unclear.
On the other hand, the Albanian Football Association (AFH) has not yet made an official announcement about the continuation of the cooperation with the Brazilian coach, leaving all options open. Reports suggest that his departure is a real possibility, especially after the failure in the play-off phase for the World Cup.
Corinthians' previous interest
According to Brazilian media, including the portal “bolavip.br”, Silvinjo was included in the list of candidates to take over at Corinthians after Dorival Junior resigned. One of the main reasons for this interest was his good knowledge of the club, which would avoid an adaptation period.
However, club leaders decided to move quickly due to the busy match calendar, which includes matches in the Copa Libertadores and the domestic championship.
Silvinjo's past at Corinthians
Silvinho has a previous history with Corinthians, both as a coach and as a player. He led the team from May 2021 to February 2022, a period that ended with his resignation after a defeat to Santos.
During this time, he recorded 44 matches in charge of the team, with a record of 17 wins, 14 draws and 13 losses. He had previously been part of the club as a player from 1994–1999.
Other candidates in the race
In addition to Silvinho, the list of candidates for the Corinthians bench also included other well-known names such as Carlos Carvalhal, Bruno Lage, Tite, Marcelo Gallardo and Juan Pablo Vojvoda.
