Another serious incident has shaken Spanish football, this time during the match between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The match, won 1-2 by the Catalans, was accompanied by tensions not only on the pitch, but also in the stands, where the spotlight fell on young talent Lamine Yamal. The 18-year-old footballer was the target of xenophobic insults from some of the home fans as he prepared to take a corner kick.
According to reports, insulting and discriminatory chants were heard from the stands, including derogatory comments and references to his origin, which has caused strong reactions in the sports community.
This is not the first time Yamal has faced similar racist abuse during an international match, which he publicly condemned.
Despite campaigns and measures taken by football institutions to combat racism and discrimination, such episodes continue to recur, damaging the image of the sport. So far, the perpetrators of this case have not been identified, while a reaction is expected from the competent authorities and the respective clubs themselves.
